The site for the house faces eastwards across a valley. Tree-lined fields fall down to a stream and then the land rolls up again to the ridge opposite. All in all an idyllic English rural setting. In order to make the most of the sun through the day we located a walled garden immediately to the south of the new house. This sets up the south east corner with views over both the valley and the garden. On the ground floor a family room occupies this position with master bedroom suite immediately above. From the opposite side the building forms a U-shape creating a private entrance courtyard. The character of the building from this side is also softer, more informal and more discrete. The design incorporates privacy and grandeur in equal measure.
